A message from Birchway Niagara to women suffering violence at home.... you're not alone.
Executive Director Jennifer Gauthier says Niagara Falls was lit up in purple last night, marking the start of Woman Abuse Prevention Month.
The question they always get... why not just leave the abuse? "The women that walk through our doors often come with absolutely nothing. They leave behind their house, their income, their vehicles, and it becomes even more complex with things like children, and pets, and wanting to stay to protect children."
She says leaving abuse is more complicated than most people realize.
Events are taking place into December to try and get women to leave abuse in the home.
She adds they have services for men, too. "If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, and you don't know how to support them, you can call our crisis line, and our amazing councillors will help you figure out how to have those difficult conversations with someone, and let them know you're there to support them."
Roughly $60,000 has been raised for the Allied Against Abuse daily raffle.
