It's the EmpowHER program
Girls in the Niagara region have a chance to learn some valuable life skills, thanks to a new program by the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre.
Grayson Hayes runs the EmpowHER program, helping girls from 10-16 years old learn conflict resolution, and decision making.
She recalls one girl who was very quiet at first, and only interacted with staff. "But now she's in Level 2, and I've known her for 2-years now, and I've seen immense growth in her. She's always the first to volunteer to complete tasks, and to group up with new people."
She adds this is in time for International Women's Day on Sunday.
It's also learning about what's important to them. "We talk a little bit about emotional intelligence, and how that makes a great leader. They do teamwork challenges, one week, to get them working together, because a lot of these girls have never met each other before."
She credits Ontario Power Generation for sponsoring this free program.
