The Automotive Parts Manufacturer's Association is optimistic
The Niagara region is on the radar of the Automotive Parts Manufacturer's Association, after a presentation at the region in Thorold on Wednesday.
Director of Economic Development George Spezza says Niagara is well positioned to return as a manufacturing hub, being close to the border.
He adds global defense spending will benefit Niagara. "And in the auto industry, often those types of capabilities can be transferable to help to be part of that supply chain, in the defense sector, specializing in mobility defense types of vehicles."
He says the Association is optimistic with US trade talks coming, since our economies are so intertwined.
He looks to 86% of Canadian manufacturing crossing the border. "Is already covered under the CUSMA agreement, if they are compliant under that.... so many are going tariff free. I think we're going to start having more content in vehicle parts, in automotive manufacturing."
He points to the rich history of auto manufacturing in Niagara that'll help.
