A Niagara Regional Police officer has been arrested after a crash in St. Catharines.
On February 7th, officers were made aware of allegations involving a fail to remain collision.
The crash occurred on February 3rd in the area of Niagara Street and Welland Avenue, and involved an unmarked Service vehicle.
To avoid a conflict of interest, the Halton Police Service took over the investigation.
Earlier today, Constable Chris Rawson was arrested and charged with the following:
- Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm contrary to Section 320.13 (2) of the Criminal Code
- Assault with a Weapon contrary to Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code
- Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident contrary to Section 320.16 (1) of the Criminal Code
Rawson, who has spent 23 years with the force, was released on a Form 10 Undertaking, and will appear in court on June 2nd.
Investigators say Rawson was off duty at the time of the alleged offences.
In accordance with the Police Services Act of Ontario, he has been suspended with pay.
