Opening line up for live theatre in Port Dover and Port Colborne
An early start to announcing the Lighthouse Festival's season for next year in May in Port Colborne and Port Dover.
Artistic Director David Leyshon is giving audiences plenty of time to plan, for plays such as I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change... and, It's a Wonderful Life.
He asked himself why people come to live theatre. "We're craving connection, we're craving human experience in an age of streaming, in an age of AI, and we're wanting to see reflected back at us the things that are important to us.... family, connection, love, empathy, humour."
He adds much of the stage props are made locally.
He takes notes of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change. "From the awkward 1st date, to trying to find love, to finding your life partner, to getting married, to having kids, and ultimately you're reflecting on a life time of love. There's at least one moment in the play when everyone in the audience will think 'Yeah, I've felt that'."
He says live theatre is a great way to see performances on love, connection and family.
