The Deputy Chief of the NRP has released an official statement addressing racism and police stereotyping.
Bill Fordy says racism is wrong and police should take steps to address it along with biases and prejudices.
He also says all decisions must be based on evidence, not emotion.
Fordy says any officer who takes advantage of their responsibility should be held accountable, but most officers are kind people who just want to make the world a better place.
He adds police are called in while you're experiencing the worst day of your life and often risk their own health and safety in the process.
Fordy says he has worked with some of the finest people in this country throughout his 31 years of policing.
