Port Colborne Moving Forward on Health Care

Picture supplied

More significant steps forward for health care in Port Colborne.

City council has approved the Community Health and Wellness Action plan, and also directed city staff to develop a business case for a potential Port Colborne Community Health hub.

Both decisions are the result of over 18-months of research and consultation, in preparing for health care changes, including the closure of the Urgent Care Centre in 2028

The city says the Wellness Action plan is a long-term plan, focusing on better access to care, mental health and well-being, and community advocacy.

The Action plan was the result of consultations since January of 2025, and approval rate of over 90% from the community.

The Health Hub is to potentially include after-hours and urgent care, and is intended to compliment, rather than replace, hospital services by expanding access to care closer to home.

City staff has been directed to make a business case for the hub, brought before city council after the municipal election.
