Respecting Taxpayers, Douglas Memorial Candidate's Concerns

A Fort Erie mayoral candidate wants the job because he says it's about being good stewards of taxpayer money.

Tom Insinna tells us he'll first look over where money is spent, while also working to bring more business to town.  "For example, a single industrial complex that comes into town, say 120,000 square feet... that's going to bring in an average, of close to, a million dollars in property taxes."

He also has a commitment from Health Minister Sylvia Jones to talk about Douglas Memorial urgent care.  "The idea of a senior population who feels ill, to seek treatment driving out of town, in extreme weather conditions, to an out of town facility, and waiting there for hours, is not acceptable."

He's also got other groups interested in helping.  "I've already got 2 builders who are ready to build new facilities, right now, in the middle of Fort Erie."

The life-long resident says too many people have left, and that needs to stop.

He recalls going through the Niagara Region's budget as a councillor.  "Some of the things are just.... we're going to spend so much money paving a new parking lot at the region, when so many roads in Fort Erie are cow paths, regional roads.... I mean, come on."

He adds he'll look at what is needed vs wants before considering any tax increase.
