Many people concerned about speeding, near Quaker Road school
If you have kids that go to Quaker Road public school in Welland, breath a bit easier now that a signalized cross walk is going up nearby.
City council voted to install one this year at First Avenue and Cedar Park Drive.
Resident Nadia Potter was armed with stats for it, especially noting speeding in the area. "104kms an hour, going between 3 and 4pm, when kids are being picked up from school. I've watched this, a lot of parents have. We've witnessed people speeding down the road many times, we've watched the crossing guard almost get clipped by cars."
It was also noted Welland's population is growing, meaning greater need for the crosswalk.
Councillor Brian Green says he's heard from many people, especially over concerns of speeding.
He adds many people use First Avenue to avoid the lights on Niagara Street. "Niagara College, expanding the student residence... a lot of students use that street to get to Niagara College. It's quicker than going down Woodlawn and around, so they use the short cut. People always look for the shortest route."
Three councillors wanted to wait for more information from city staff.
