The Niagara region says this can led to Lyme disease

A reminder from the Niagara region to be wary of ticks, as the warmer weather returns.

It says some ticks, including the black-legged tick, can carry bacteria that cause Lyme disease, and other illnesses.

Cases of Lyme disease remain relatively low in Niagara, 47 cases reported last year, while there were well over 2,000 province wide in 2024.

The region adds black legged ticks can be found in forested areas, tall grass, leaf litter, but also yards and green spaces.
