The city told applications still being accepted for when it opens in November on Baker Street, with 60 rooms, 1 and 2-bedrooms
The City of Thorold is encouraging seniors looking for a place to live to consider a new apartment complex opening in November at 5 Baker Street.
John Kenny is the Chair of the Non-profit Housing Board, and says half the rooms are taken, after letting only people from Thorold know about it.
He adds many say they might be ready in a year or two. "My answer to that is there is an 8 to 10-year waiting list for these places. If you're ready in two years, this is your opportunity.... I'm trying to tell people from Thorold that."
He says the one bedrooms go for $1,650 plus hydro.
"A lot said they're not quite ready, some of it has to do with the housing market. People are afraid that if they come in here, they won't be able to sell their house. Having said that, seniors are going to have to make a choice."
A number of councillors applauded the work done, and encourage people to take a look.
