U.S politician now calling for Biden Administration to follow Canada's lead
Local politicians and business groups are celebrating the end of the ArriveCAN app and other border restrictions.
The federal government confirmed all pandemic measures at the border, including the use of masks on planes and trains, will come to an end on Saturday.
South Niagara Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dolores Fabiano says, "ending the mandatory ArriveCAN app was a battle hard-fought by border communities and affected organizations, such as the SNCC. Our already pandemic-battered Niagara tourism partners were having real trouble with its disincentive to tourism, among other ongoing issues. We appreciate that sense has prevailed with this federal announcement."
SNCC and numerous local stakeholders have been critical of the app claiming it was responsible for longer border processing times, was difficult to use and deterred economic recovery.
Some U.S politicians are now calling on the Biden Administration to end their measures, as well, with proof of vaccination status still a requirement to enter the United States.
Western New York Congressman Brian Higgins tweeted out, "it's been a long 2 1/2 years for border communities. Canada's decision is the right one. The U.S. should follow."
