Fire crews say the alarm alerted the woman of the fire in Niagara Falls on Monday
It's a never-ending message Niagara Falls fire department, and other departments, will continue to drive home... the importance of working smoke alarms.
Fire prevention officer Ben Trendle tells us a senior citizen suffered smoke inhalation and burns, after a fire in her apartment Monday night on Valley Way in Niagara Falls.
He credits a working smoke alarm for the outcome. "We stand here and promote smoke alarms, day in and day out, people still don't get the message, but the proof is in the pudding. The woman is alive today because someone installed and maintained a smoke alarm in that unit."
A cause has not been determined yet, or damage estimate.
He adds the fire was contained to her room, the building's other occupants were able to return to their rooms.
