The money was provided to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region last week
A $99,900 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to the Alzheimer Society Niagara region last week.
The money will support families as a loved one living with dementia is moved into long-term care, with councilling, education and peer connection.
The need for this type of support was recognized by the Niagara Ontario Health Team, who noted gaps in support.
Families will also be supported on grief and loss, changes in identity and caregiving roles, meaningful visits, and managing new partnerships with long-term care homes.
Last year, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, part of the provincial government, invested nearly $107-million into 746 community projects.
