St. Catharines city council is supporting a request by Parry Sound that the provincial government give more clarity on the use of e-scooters.
Right now, it's illegal to ride an e-scooter on public property in many areas of Niagara.
Councillor Marty Mako explained what's happening. "We've had a pretty serious incident on Lighthouse Road, and Councillor Williamson and I have received quite a number of complaints this summer about e-scooters on the pier in Port Dalhousie."
The provincial government has a pilot program now until 2029, enabling municipalities to decide if they're allowed or not.
The city's Director of Legal Services says Niagara police have outlawed them. "We're looking at other municipalities to see which ones opted in to the provincial pilot program, and who opted out. We are gathering all the information necessary to be able to advise council."
The provincial government will take information received over the pilot period, and decide if e-scooters should be outlawed provincially.
