Report suggests tax incentives and increasing COVID loan forgiveness for businesses
Some bad news for tourism in Niagara.
The Ontario Chamber of Commerce says the province's tourism industry is not expected to fully recover from the pandemic until 2025.
A joint report with the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario offers several suggestions, including making the staycation tax credit permanent and increasing COVID business loan forgiveness amounts.
It also says the province could allow cannabis special event permits.
On average, tourism businesses in Ontario are making about two-thirds of the revenue they saw in 2019.
The report also notes about seven out of 10 tourism businesses have to taken on debt in order to stay afloat.
It also highlights labour challenges, with an 81 percent jump in tourism and hospitality job postings compared to 2019.
