Police watchdog says man's death was self-inflicted.
The Special Investigations Unit isn't laying charges against any Niagara Regional Police officers after a man cut his neck during a crisis negotiation.
On the afternoon of June 24th, authorities were called to a home in St. Catharines on Russell Avenue.
The SIU says a man inside the home was in distress and was holding a knife.
A trained crisis negotiator spoke with the man for an hour and a half before talks began to break down.
Officers tried to apprehend him with energy weapons, but afterwards, he picked up a kitchen knife and cut his neck.
He later died in hospital.
SIU Director Joseph Martino says the police officers conducted themselves with due care for the man's health and well-being.
