Niagara Health Reporting Spike in COVID-19 Hospitalizations

Hospital says it's treating 90 patients who have the virus.

Niagara Health is urging the public to wear face masks as the hospital reports a jump in patients with COVID-19.

Officials say there are 90 patients battling the virus, and there are eight outbreaks within the Niagara Falls, St. Catharines and Welland sites.

At the moment, 372 Niagara Health staff are in self-isolation.

Niagara Health says staff and physicians are experiencing an increasing amount of disrespectful behavior as the pandemic lingers on.

There are no changes to services at this time, and anyone entering the hospital must wear a mask and pass a COVID-19 screening.

One visitor or Essential Care Partner is permitted at bedsides, except in units that are in an outbreak or if a patient is in isolation.

Forty-two of the 90 patients are being treated primarily for COVID-19.
