St. Catharines Fire Services is reminding you to exercise caution when it comes to electrical appliances, barbecues and outdoor smokers.
The reminder comes after two homes went up in flames.
The first fire happened on Friday night at a home on Linlake Drive.
A space heater in the basement had been modified with a spliced electrical cord, which is believed to have caused the flames.
One resident was sent to hospital, and the home experienced about $150,000 in damages.
You're reminded that repairs and alterations to appliances should only be done by professionals.
The second fire happened on Saturday night at a residence on Niagara Street.
An outdoor smoker at the rear of the house set the deck and the rear of the home ablaze.
Residents are reminded to remain aware of the risks associated with outdoor cooking appliances.
