The federal government has launched a mandatory review of the Cannabis Act.
In 2018, the use and sale of recreational cannabis was legalized, with the condition that the law be reviewed every three years.
The first review is nearly a year late.
The legislation is being reviewed to determine whether the Act is meeting the needs and expectations of Canadians.
According to the Cannabis Act, the view must examine issues such as cultivating cannabis in housing complexes, the impact on Indigenous people, and the health and consumption patterns of youth.
The mandate has been expanded to include social and environmental effects, the impact on women and minorities and the impact of legalization and regulation of medical cannabis.
The review will be conducted by an independent panel of experts, including former deputy minister of justice Morris Rosenberg.
The panel will receive feedback from government sources, members of the public, medical cannabis users and representatives from the cannabis industry.
