It's a $35-million deal for LIV Communities to build up to 4,000 units, along canal
A $35-million deal has been signed between the City of Welland and a developer to get more housing units built.
The city says it was signed with LIV Communities for the company to take over 152 acres of land known as Northern Reach.
That is land to the west of the canal, from Woodlawn Road to north of Merritt Road.
The city adds the development is expected to create up to 4,000 housing units, while integrating with existing neighbourhoods and surrounding area.
A key feature is the development's connection to the recreation trail.
LIV Communities will also build parks and a pedestrian bridge to Merritt Island.
The city began this transaction in August of 2021, picking LIV Communities as the developer in 2022.
Mayor Frank Campion adds this development will provide much needed housing options.
