City of Port Colborne says its expecting 70 ship visits over the summer and fall, with the opening of the Welland Canal
Excitement is brewing in Port Colborne as the cruise ship season gets underway.
The city says the reopening of the Welland Canal means anticipation of more than 70 ship visits, between this month and October, and local guides are looking forward to showing the city off.
There's been a 30% increase in visits to Great Lakes ports, and a $230-million economic impact.
The city adds tour guides say their favourite part is how friendly local people are in greeting visitors, as well as teaching visitors about the physical landscape of the Niagara escarpment.
Tour guides also say there is plenty of positive feedback from cruise lines and passengers about Port Colborne.
