A top Ontario doctor is asking the province to consider cancelling March Break this year.
Eastern Ontario's medical officer of health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis says he's confident many schools will reopen February 10th.
He tells CTV News, he thinks the government should cancel the traditional break to avoid a repeat of the spike in COVID cases we saw right after the Christmas holidays.
But at least one teacher's union head doesn’t agree, Harvey Bischof, with the Secondary School Teachers' Federation, says educators, students and parents need a break.
He also accuses the province of failing to implement necessary safety measures and reduce class sizes.
Meantime parents in Niagara continue to wait for the province to announce when their children will return to class.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce had hinted he may make a decision sometime this week.
