A major development in Niagara Parks' quest to find someone to build a new observation wheel in Queen Victoria park.
It has cancelled its Request for Proposals, now that President of HOCO Entertainment Harry Oakes says he plans to redevelop the existing Niagara SkyWheel.
Niagara Parks says Mr. Oakes came up with a detailed business plan, showing financing is available.
This means the existing SkyWheel will be replaced with a new 250-foot ferris wheel, making it the tallest in Canada.
In 2025, a Request for Proposals was issued for a new wheel in Queen Victoria Park, in line with the province's Destination Niagara Strategy, but it also faced strong community opposition.
