The Ontario government is planning to bypass public hearings on a controversial long-term care bill in order to quickly pass long the proposed legislation.
If passed, the bill would allow hospital patients to be moved to a temporary long term care home without their consent while they wait for a bed in their preferred facility.
Long Term Care Minister Paul Calandra says the move is necessary in order to free up acute care beds in hospitals.
While the bill doesn't allow patients to be physically forced to move to a long-term care home, it's not yet clear what would happen if a patients refuses a transfer.
The government has moved a motion that would advance the bill directly to third reading.
This means it won't be considered by a committee or be subject to a public hearing at that stage.
