You might have a tough time finding an outdoor garbage can in some areas of St. Catharines.
The city removed 45 of them back in December.
This is all part of a pilot project, which looks to stop illegal dumping.
It looks like it's working. Director of Municipal Works Darryl Smith says illegal dumping is down in those areas, but littering is on the rise.
The project should wrap up this summer.
The Region recently increased the price of garbage bag tags from $2.00 to $2.50.
The Region is also going to switch to every-other-week garbage collection this fall.
