Hospitals that treat adults in Ontario are being asked to treat kids aged 14 and older in need of critical care.
The head of Ontario's critical care COVID-19 command centre is asking hospitals that treat adults to accept children aged 14 and older in need of intensive care.
The request was made in order to relieve pressures on pediatric hospitals.
Dr. Andrew Baker notes some surgeries may need to be cancelled as a result.
He also says hospitals should maximize intensive care capacity in order to relieve burdens on emergency departments.
At the moment, there are 107 children in ICUs across the province, four of which have COVID-19.
