Canadian Press reveals government didn't plan debate, unless made higher priority
A bill that was launched in response to Paul Bernardo's transfer to a medium security prison, had been discussed by government officials within the Privy Council Office.
According to documents obtained by the Canadian Press, staff indicated the bill wouldn't come before Parliament unless the Liberal made it a higher priority.
The bill, which was brought forth by Niagara Falls Conservative MP Tony Baldinelli, looks to require serial killers like Bernardo to serve their entire sentence in maximum security.
Bernardo was moved in May, and questions were raised about the government's handling of the move.
Correctional Service Canada later defended the decision, saying it followed all necessary laws.
Bernardo is serving a life sentence for the murders of Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy.
