Niagara Falls site to increase capacity
The Niagara Region is taking more steps to help the help the homeless.
Yesterday, the Region announced a new temporary facility in St. Catharines, that will provide 50 modular housing units.
As well, the shelter on Summer Street in Niagara Falls is being converted to a permanent, year round shelter.
"We were very full last winter, so it was important to us to make sure that we gave ourselves a little more opportunity this winter to be sure we could house everybody," says Cathy Cousins, the Region's Director of Homelessness Services. "So that site has gone from 40 people to 60 people at a max."
She also says both of the sites will allow couples and families with adult children to stay together.
The Niagara Falls site will open next week, and the St. Catharines one will open early next year.
