Niagara Falls City Council still wants to opt out of every-other-week garbage collection.
But according to a report by city staff, waste collection is the Region's responsibility under the Municipal Act and opting out of it wouldn't be so easy.
Councillor Victor Pietrangelo introduced a motion to look for outside legal advice Tuesday night, and it was passed unanimously.
Regional Council approved every-other-week trash collection last month, with 19 councillors in favour and eight councillors against it.
Four of the opposed councillors represent Niagara Falls; Mayor Jim Diodati, Bob Gale and Peter Nicholson.
The Region would like to have the new collection schedule ready to go by October 2020.
Recycling and organics would still be collected on a weekly basis.
