Wayne Gates introducing bill to assist employees with diseases resulting from their place of work.
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates says he will table a new motion to help victims of occupational cancers and diseases resulting from their workplaces.
If passed, the "Justice for Victims of Occupational Disease Act", the bill will legislate demands being made by the Occupational Disease Reform Alliance.
The advocacy group, which formed last year, is urging the province to expand the list of compensable diseases presumed to be work-related and accept that multiple exposures combine to cause illnesses.
It also says the Ontario government should provide compensation on occupational disease claims when workplace patterns exceed levels in the community and use proper legal standards instead of scientific certainty.
