It'll be called the Walker House, as the demand for beds in Niagara remains
A ribbon cutting ceremony is Thursday for a new $12-million hospice in Welland.
Hospice Niagara Executive Director Carol Nagy says it'll be called the Walker House, for Walker Industries' initial $1.5-million investment.
She adds each of the 10 rooms have their own features. "For example, every room has an overhead lift, which is nice to provide that ability for people to move around the room, with an overhead lift, versus a physical lift coming in the room."
She also says for every request of hospice fulfilled, another two come along.
They were approached by Foyer Richelieu. "Who were building a new long-term care home, and they had about of their first floor that was available. When they approached us, I said we could build a hospice in that 3rd floor."
She adds the Niagara 50/50 raffle is still on, to win a new Chevy Silverado, and support hospice.
