CAA says this should help prevent violence among drivers, which it says has not happened in Niagara
CAA Niagara is applauding recent rules that started Monday concerning the tow truck industry.
Those include choosing who tows your vehicle, and to where, as well as what the bill will be before towing.
Kevin Puckett is with CAA Niagara, and points to the best benefit. "I think bringing a consistent level of controls, because every municipality had differing levels of controls. So, with that inconsistency, it's not always easy to know if a tow operator is in one area or another area."
He says the new rules will help areas where there were incidents of violence among drivers.
He also says this region, along with others, have been calling for changes for roughly ten years.
"We used to be under the control of the Niagara Regional police, and that transferred to the Niagara Region... and so, compliance and having your licence to tow, had parameters in it, for quite a while. But, other areas in the province might not have been so clear."
As the new rules set to regulate the industry, he says this helps in knowing the truck driving history of new drivers when they apply.
