Bill to create holiday receives royal assent
We have another holiday, but for now the new stat will be for federal government workers and those who are employed by federally regulated businesses.
A bill to create the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th received royal assent yesterday.
The bill was fast tracked after last week's discovery of the remains of 215 Indigenous children at a site of a former residential school in B.C.
The new statutory holiday commemorates the tragic legacy of residential schools in Canada.
