Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day.
The Fort Erie Fire Department is urging pet owners to consider the needs of your animals when making a fire escape plan for your home.
Some tips include practicing your escape route with pets, and extinguish candles, as they can easily be knocked over by your animals.
If you can't find your pet quickly during a fire, you can leave the home and allow first responders to conduct a search, or keep your doors open and call their name.
