Man accused of killing ten people at a Buffalo supermarket now faces federal hate crime charges.
Federal hate crime charges have been laid against Payton Gendron, the man accused of shooting ten people to death in a Buffalo supermarket last month.
The U.S. Attorney General has announced Gendron now faces ten counts of hate crime resulting in death, three counts of hate crime involving bodily injury, ten counts of use of a firearm to commit murder during and in relation to a violent crime, and three counts of use and discharge of a firearm during a violent crime.
If convicted, the 18 year old could get the death penalty.
Gendron has already pleaded not guilty to state-level charges, including hate-motivated terrorism and murder.
Gendron is accused of shooting 13 people at Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, most of whom were black.
The suspect has been jailed without bail since the May 14th incident.
Authorities say the suspect's racist world view and preparation for the attack have been laid out in online documents.
Previously, the accused shooter was indicted on 25 other counts, including ten counts of first degree murder.
