Police say they are investigating after a group of anti-mask protestors attempted to "arrest" mayor Walter Sendzik.
A spokeswoman with the NRP says that charges are pending, and the investigation continues.
Police are currently not releasing any further details.
The St. Catharines Standard reports that yesterday, 35 people from the group Stand4Thee gathered without masks on Church Street.
The event had been posted on social media, and the group said they planned to place St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik under arrest.
Organizers claimed that the group wanted to arrest the mayor "in defense of the children", stating that his support for mask bylaws equates to child abuse.
On Twitter, St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle spoke against the event, referring to it as "a threat to kidnap an elected official."
