Federal public service employees will need to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The federal government says COVID-19 vaccines will be mandatory for all federal employees as early as the end of next month.
As well, Privy Council President Dominic LeBlanc and Transport Minister Omar Alghabra announced today that all employees in the federally regulated air, rail and marine transportation sectors will be required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of October.
This requirement will also apply to commercial travelers and passengers on cruise ships or interprovincial trains.
Exemptions will be made for anyone who can't get vaccinated for medical reasons, and those individuals may face enhanced screening and testing.
The government also expects Crown corporations to make vaccinations mandatory for all staff.
Currently, about 82 percent of eligible Canadians have at least one shot, and 70 percent are fully vaccinated.
