More pressure to re-open the U.S. - Canada border.
A coalition of American legislators has formally asked the White House and Canadian federal government to re-open the border to tourists who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The Midwestern Legislative Conference, an offshoot of the U.S. Council of State Departments, decided at today's annual meeting to pass a formal resolution urging both governments to move forward with loosening border restrictions for double-dosed travelers.
Since March 2020, the border has been shut down to non-essential travel.
The border closure is set to expire on July 21st, and there's no word yet on if it will be extended past that date.
Midwest lawmakers say confusion as to what counts as "essential travel" has occurred, and the decision has been left to the discretion of individual border agents.
This comes as government officials in France push Canada to open the border to French tourists, after France opened its borders to fully immunized Canadians.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the country is considering a "cautious" re-opening approach, and details will be released soon.
