Town council viewed a report after a resident asked for exemptions, it compared other Niagara municipalities
If you live in Pelham, you'll have to make sure your car is not parked on city streets during snowfall, in order to give plows easy access.
During review of a staff report, town council noted 8 other Niagara municipalities maintaining parking bans, with no exemptions.
Deputy Mayor Brian Eckhardt added exemptions create headaches for snow crews. "People can find alternatives, there are ways around this, they can ask neighbours, they can park in nearby lots. It may be a slight inconvenience, but it's far less than the inconvenience of plow operators trying to maneuver around the streets."
Council voted to receive this report, requiring action from staff.
Fire Chief Bob Lymburner says they can tow vehicles, if need be. "In my time, we have never towed a vehicle. We've always been successful in contacting the owner, we run the plate, and we reach out to them that it needs to be moved. Sometimes it's a disabled vehicle, sometimes it's someone away on holidays for a few weeks."
Council listened to a Pelham resident in December ask for a parking ban exemption.
