It was a narrow vote at corporate services committee
There's a chance the American flag could be coming down at the West Lincoln Community Centre, due to controversial US tariffs.
The town's corporate services committee just voted 4-3 in favour, council as a whole still has to approve this.
Many councillors, including Joann Chechalk, who voted against, pointed out this is not against American people. "They have come here, married Canadians, they may not have normalized here, but they are comfortable. I have neighbours of that ilk, but now they feel very uncomfortable, they feel very embarrassed."
The idea is to put the flag back only during certain events.
Councillor Jason Trombetta cautiously supported this for one reason... safety. "Because we know we've had damage at the community centre, that is going to be a safety issue. For the mean time, until the turmoil comes to a calmer waters if you will, then I will support this."
Mayor Cheryl Gannan, who voted against, urged the flag issue not become a controversy in the community.
