John Chiocchio tried during council meeting but told there's nothing more, yet
A Welland city councillor says the only thing he can do about a partially collapsed condo complex is the same as everyone else... wait for the Ministry of Labour to investigate.
The site on Prince Charles Drive is in John Chiocchio's ward, and he tells us he's been taking calls from residents about the side south collapse.
"It's a safety concern, and they're also wanting to know if the north part of the development is in good standing. So they do have some issues. And some of the rubble has fallen close to the walkway, so that's now closed off," he says.
He adds the developer is looking forward to finishing the building and furthering the development of the city.
Chiocchio also says council tried to get answers at its recent meeting, but was told by city staff there isn't much to reveal while the Ministry of Labour investigates.
"And I heard that the company, the developer, feels good about continuing to build there, which is good. I hear most of the units are sold."
The city councillor indicates he knows only what has been revealed in the media.
