Residents have complained of traffic speeding along, especially near Ross Public school
Better watch your speed on Niagara Street in Welland, especially in front of Ross Public school, if council gets its way.
Councillor David McLeod has asked for the region to approve a crosswalk, after he and Councillor Leo Van Vliet say pedestrians have complained about the very busy area.
"Notre Dame high school, also behind Ross Street school you have St. Kevin's Elementary school. So there's a lot of pedestrian traffic.... you also have St. Kevin's church, you also have the Canal, and you have Chippawa Park," he says.
There's no price tag yet.
Councillor Van Vliet originally brought the idea forth months ago. "I know I walk that street fairly regularly on my walking tours, and it is an extremely busy crossing section. Out in front of that school it's really needed, especially during school."
Councillor McLeod believes it's a regional road, so this will be up to regional council to take care of.
Welland council voted to ask the Region for the crosswalk.
