Fire department says this was for fire code violations for building on East Main Street
An apartment/commercial building owner in Welland has been fined for not maintaining proper fire safety standards.
Welland Fire and Emergency Services began inspecting the building on East Main Street in May, when they found hydro had been disconnected several days earlier.
An Immediate Threat to Life notice was issued, resulting in temporary smoke alarms, as well as power restoration, and some deficiencies corrected.
A further inspection, however, revealed inadequate fire separations between floors, and these were not corrected by a deadline, leading to prosecution.
The fire department says earlier this month the property owner pled guilty, and was fined $22,000, plus court costs.
