But Niagara's jobless rate inched up
Canada's unemployment numbers were released this morning and Niagara's rate was higher than the national average last month.
Despite losing 25,000 jobs nation-wide, Statistics Canada says the national rate actually dipped to 6.5%, which is the lowest since September, 2024. However, the decline was largely attributed to the fact fewer people were searching for employment in the first month of the year.
Here in Niagara, the rate came in at 7.3%, up 0.2% from December.
