General Motors says the plant will be idle for a week due to a global shortage of computer chips.
The company says that the layoff will affect all workers at the Ingersoll plant from February 8th until the 13th.
About 1,500 hourly workers will get layoff benefits.
General Motors says that the shortage has also resulted in downtime for plants in Kansas and Mexico and decreased capacity at a South Korea plant.
An AutoForecast Solutions report that was released last month points to an increased demand for chips in phones and gaming systems, making it harder for automakers to get semiconductors.
No word yet on whether the shortages will impact GM's St. Catharines plant or its Tonawanda Engine Plant.
Last month, the company announced it is investing $1 billion into its CAMI Plant to produce electric commercial delivery vans
