Storm Leaves 4ft Water in Homes

The owner of Niagara Pool Liners loaned his pumps to neighbours, saw substantial damage

A staggering amount of water ending up in some St Catharines homes after last night's torrential storm.

Rob George owns Niagara Pool Liners, and says he started at 3 this morning on his north end home, able to clean his house before too much damage.

However, some of his neighbours weren't so fortunate, one house with at least 4 feet of water in the basement.  "It was right by the window, maybe 4 or 5 inches from the window.  It was pumping for a while before it even started going down.  I think more water was coming in before it was going out, for a while."

He loaned all his pumps out to his neighbours.  "I don't want to go into peoples' houses, so I set up gas pumps through a window.  A lot of people are scared to go into their house, saying 'I'm not walking into that house, not knowing what the condition, especially electrical, is like'.  Just looking through windows to see what the water level is like, and it's pretty high."

He adds many manhole covers have water coming from them.
