Thorold council voted against another public meeting
A stop sign will be put at the corner of Canby Street and Hamilton Boulevard in Port Robinson to slow traffic down.
Thorold council was considering another public meeting, however resident Ron Devereaux pointed out the results of a traffic study.
He said it showed 85% of the 655 vehicles observed exceeded the 50km speed limit in the area. "49% were recorded at 60kms/hour or more, 15% were recorded at 70kms/hour or more, 4% of the total vehicles were travelling in excess of 80kms/hour."
Councillor Tim O'Hare says another public meeting is not needed, and it's time to slow traffic down.
Councillor Henry D'Angela explained why another meeting was recommended.
"The resident who lives right in front of where the stop sign is going to go, it's right at the end of his driveway, had some concerns. It's not unusual for this council to look at things, sometimes to get a second look at it, to make sure we're doing it right."
City staff say they are working with the homeowner on solutions.
