Tickets issued for seatbelt, permit and license plate violations

One person is facing impaired driving charges following a pair of R.I.D.E. checks in St. Catharines.

Last night, police stopped about 500 cars and asked the drivers if they had consumed any drugs or alcohol earlier in the evening.

In total, 22 drivers were asked to take a breathalyzer test.

One person, a 51 year old St. Catharines resident, was arrested for impaired driving after two breath samples registered double the legal limit.

Police say the man's driver's license has been suspended for three months, and his vehicle has been impounded for a week.

As well, 14 tickets were issued for various offences, including seatbelt, permit and license plate infractions.

Impaired driving is the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
