Mayor Walter Sendzik gives Mohammed Ahmed the Key to the City of St. Catharines.
Olympian Mohammed Ahmed has been give the Key to the City of St. Catharines.
Earlier today, the track star was presented with the key by Mayor Walter Sendzik.
Ahmed, who is from St. Catharines, is the first Canadian Olympian in history to win an Olympic medal in the 5,000 metre.
Last year, he won a silver medal after a dramatic surge in the final lap of the event.
Ahmed joins a prestigious list of recipients of the Key to the City, which includes Doug Hamilton, Kristen Kit and Tim Hicks.
This is the final Key to the City presented by Mayor Sendzik, as he prepares to finish his two terms as mayor in November.
